Early Lead Disappears in Loss to Killerbrew Boys

I wasn’t sure how this game would go. We had a two-week bye – one because of the Super Bowl followed by our regularly scheduled bye week. We had three full lines show up so I knew we’d have legs for three full periods, but we were playing a team that usually plays a division above us and entered the game with a 4-1 record and +7 goal differential. After jumping out to an early 4-1 lead after the first period I was worried we’d let our guard down.

As the game wore on the shots kept coming, 44 in total, and the Killerbew Boys slowly cutaway at our lead despite my warnings to my teammates. It was late in the game with they scored the go-ahead goal to win the game 6-5. Despite six goals allowed, my expected goals against was 5.58 so I felt satisfied with my play, but still wished I would have stopped enough to get us the W. Next week’s game doesn’t get any easier as we play the top team in the division.
