MNWAHL Playoffs

With our tie in the MNWAHL regular-season finale, we finished the season 5-5-4 giving us a bye for the first round. The tie with the Swamp Donkeys also dropped them in the standings, but they too still had a first-round bye. As luck would have it we wound up playing each other in the quarterfinal round. My goalie buddy Shawn and I found it amusing after we thought it fitting what we thought was our last game against each other ended in a tie. Now somebody had to lose.

My defense played great in this game, keeping shots to a minimum (22 to be exact), and making sure I had a clear view of them. After a first goal allowed that hit my glove but still bounced in I settled in, but we were still trailing 4-1 going into the third period. I reminded the fellas that just two weeks prior we came back against the same team. Wouldn’t you know it we clawed back and forced overtime.

MNWAHL playoff overtime rules are a 5-minute 4-on-4 period followed by a shootout. We didn’t need the shootout though because about a minute into the overtime period a juicy rebound was picked up by one of my teammates and buried in the net.

I walked into the rink knowing this could be the last game I ever play in Minnesota. I now know I have at least one more, two at the most.
