I got a text asking if I could fill-in for a HockeyFinder.com skate. After a rough skate earlier in the week I jumped at the chance. The HockeyFinder skates are usually a little less skilled than the MNWAHL games my team plays in so I was looking forward to working on my timing with the slower speed of this game.
We played well, jumping out to an early lead, but the opposing team had more skill and took over the momentum of the game in the second half when we got visibly tired. The other team did a nice job creating traffic in front of me and tied the game late. It was a fun skate, and I feel good about the way I played. I made 23 saves in the 5-5 tie to move to a record of 1-2-1 in fill-in games this fall.
Despite the outcome of the game I do think I was able to slow things down and work on my timing. We will see how that work translates into the next MNWAHL game.
