Ice Jacks vs Lightning Bolts Championship Game
The Ice Jacks chose to ride the hot hand and call me back to fill in for the MNWAHL summer championship game. The championship game was not a cakewalk like the three previous games where we won by large margins. It was a close game from puck drop to the final buzzer. I had a shut-out going till about 2:30 left in the game, but we held on to be crowned MNWAHL D League Summer Session Champions. The victory wasn’t sealed until the last second ticked off the clock because the Lightning Bolts were swarming with some late-game pressure.
There was one scrum in front of the net where I face a shot from the slot that was headed upper glove till I snagged the puck out of the air with a full split windmill save. Solid defense by the Ice Jacks and some solid positional play on my part lead to new championship t-shirts and parking lot beers for us. Not a bad way to end the summer beer league season.
