Hosers vs GMI Generals

Sunday’s MNWAHL game got the Hosers into the win column for the first time this Fall season and put the entire league into a first-place tie with every team having a 1-1 record. I faced 31 shots in the, turning away 28 of them as we went on to win 4-3.

I always enjoy playing the GMI Generals because their goalie Shawn is a goalie I’ve played against quite a bit both in the MNWAHL and SotaStick Hockey Classic. We’ve even squared off in some Hockey Finder games as well. Shawn has some quick hands and really good edge control considering the era in which we learned to play the position.

In this game, my favorite save had to be a barrel roll poke check I executed on a breakaway. These are always easier to lay down when the shooter is coming from my left, glove side, as I can lay my stick down and have greater control. I have deployed this save selection when a shooter comes from my right, but there is a greater opportunity for error and missing the puck on that side.
