Fun at 3M Arena at Mariucci Arena

This weekend I got the opportunity to skate at the home of the University of Minnesota men’s hockey program, 3M Arena at Mariucci. It was a somewhat poorly organized skate that was supposed to be a fire vs. police  game as later that evening when the Gophers took on The Ohio State they were going to recognize first responders. With most of my team being firefighters, I got a call from one of them asking if I could skate as they didn’t know if they had enough goalies. We had the understanding that there was a chance we’d get there and my goaltending abilities wouldn’t be needed. The son of a Chicago firefighter I was happy to participate in the skate.

Well, the cops didn’t show well, they had one skater and two goalies, so we simply evened up teams with the few firefighters that we had, and played 4-on-4. It was a fun skate in a great, historic building. With three goalies we agreed to do a three man rotation, with a goalie sitting for 10 minutes, and each of us played for 20 minutes at a time.
